The Ascension Cathedral of Almaty, also known as Zenkov Cathedral, is one of the biggest Orthodox cathedrals in Kazakhstan. It is located in the famous Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen.
The cathedral was opened in 1907, and since then the building has been through a lot. First, earthquakes, and then the formation of the USSR, when religions became forbidden and religious institutions were closed or destroyed. But this is all in the past and now the Ascension Cathedral is of great value for the culture of multinational Kazakhstan. This wooden church was built according to ancient technology - almost without nails. The interior of the temple is luxurious yet minimalist. Icons drawn by a talented painter N. G. Khludov are particularly good. They adorn the church's walls and iconostasis.
Zenkov Cathedral plays an important role in the lives of thousands of Orthodox Christians. Moreover, it is an invaluable architectural and historical landmark of Almaty. The temple surprises with its beauty, and also gives a feeling of inner peace to everyone who visits it, regardless of religion.
