Transport Infrastructure

Transport infrastructure in Kazakhstan is quite well-developed. There are 20 large airports in the country, 11 of these are international.

But the main transport for passengers and cargo carrying is railway transport. The length of railway roads is over 15 thousand kilometres. 16 division points connect railway system of Kazakhstan with neighbouring countries – 11 with Russia, 2 with Uzbekistan, 1 with Kyrgyzstan, 2 with China. Currently, there are about 116 routes for passenger carrying.

Public transport in Kazakhstan is also well-developed. In all cities there are public transport buses, in some cities there are operating tramway depots. There is a subway in Almaty. You can also order a taxi or rent a car for individual driving.

During summer, bicycles are quite popular. Bike-sharing stations where you can rent bycicles can be found in large cities like Astana, Almaty and Shymkent.

It is advantageous to use a taxi in Kazakhstan for tourists traveling in a small group. Taxi service is also suitable for trips in the immediate surroundings of cities. A large number of cars with checkers on the roofs is always available near airports, metro stations and bus stops. You can also find taxis near shopping centres and markets. Popular car sharing services are also available in Kazakhstan.
