Ancient City of Sayram

The oldest name of the city, according to the written sources of the early Middle Ages, is Ispijab. The city used to be one of the largest trade and cultural centers on the Silk Road, therefore it had an important economic and political importance for the entire nomadic civilization. There are many historical sites of the middle ages: architectural complexes and buildings, mausoleums, burial sites. Of special interest is the tower of Bazalak Ata Mosque  - a minaret dating back to the 12th century. In addition, modern Sayram is a place of pilgrimage and a unique open-air museum, where one can learn the history of Kazakhstan.
