Chunja Hot Springs

The Chunja Hot Springs are famous for the unique composition of their mineral water

The village of Chunja (also spelled as Chundzha), located about 250 km (155 mi) away from Almaty, is a popular destination for those who want to improve their health. The highly mineralized water of the Chunja Hot Springs is heated by active volcanic processes to a temperature of 37-50° C (95-122° F) and is believed to have healing properties. Resorts usually offer several pools with different temperatures and water compositions. There are radon, hydrogen sulfide, and iodine-bromine springs, each treating different diseases. Before your trip, consult your doctor to make sure you don’t have contraindications to hot spring bathing. The best time to visit the hot springs is in spring, autumn, and early winter.
