Central Asia’s largest mosque, Hazrat Sultan, was built recently, but it has already become one of the main religious and spiritual attractions of the city.
The mosque was named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a Turkic Sufi. "Hazrat Sultan" means “ The Holy Sultan”. The total area covers 11 hectares, and the building itself can hold 10,000 people. White color is of great importance in Islam, therefore it was chosen as the main color of the facade of the building and its interior. There are prayer halls, rooms for the Quran (the main religious text in Islam) reading, a wedding hall and rooms for seminars and lectures.
