Tamgaly Tas Tract, located on the banks of the Ili River, 120 km north of Almaty, is remarkable for its rock paintings. 5 images of Buddhist deities are carved on the rocks. Historians date them to the 12th century. Besides Buddhist paintings, there are tamgas (emblems) of all Kazakh clans.
Tamgaly Tas is an outstanding monument of art, history and culture of Kazakhstan. Visiting this place is a great experience. You can also hike and idmire the view of the river valley and the steppe, climb the rocks, fish and swim in the Ili River.
