How to spend holidays with children in Ust-Kamenogorsk

Ust-Kamenogorsk always has something to offer its guests!

Let’s us start a series of articles about leisure time with children in different cities of Kazakhstan from the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk – the administrative and cultural center of the East Kazakhstan Province. In addition to usual game centres, entertainment facilities, water parks, you can visit many cultural and educational sites that are interesting for children.

East Kazakhstan Regional Architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve hosts “Altai Gems” exhibition and an “Ethnographic Heritage of the Kazakhs of East Kazakhstan at the end of XIX – middle of XX centuries” exposition. There is also Information and Educational Centre called "Virtual Museum" that consists of a multimedia cinema space and a computer room.

In the period from May 1 to October 31 in “Jastar” ethnopark there is an open-air exposition of the museum, which presents monuments of folk architecture with traditional dwellings.

Left bank complex of the Museum-Reserve

Perhaps, the most favorite place for visiting, both by citizens and guests of Ust-Kamenogorsk, is the left bank complex of the Museum-Reserve. There is everything for children's leisure: a zoo, an ethnic village, gardens of various styles and trends, exhibition pavilions, and even “The Blue Lakes” beach.

A walk along the landscaped alleys of the park, which connects a coastal strip with the main green area, will surely be very pleasant for you. The places for recreation are organized along the pedestrian routes: summer houses, benches, playgrounds and lawns. Here you will find a boat station, as well as “The Fairy Tale Country” exhibition and a game complex for children of preschool and primary school age. This town with a wooden fortress, a yurt, huts and a showroom is very interesting for babies. Various expositions in the children's fortress are being organized regularly. For example, the exposition “Altyn Saka” is currently operating filled with the world of children's fantasy and the world of heroes who came from the tales of different countries and peoples.

“The exposition allows young viewers, as well as adult residents and visitors of the city, to see the extraordinary and diverse world of the author's dolls and toys, to feel amazing charge of positive emotions that this type of art carries in itself,” - the Museum staff says.


Acquaintance with the military equipment

Alley with real military equipment will certainly be interesting to teenagers. The so-called “Military Complex” includes two pavilions: the Victory Pavilion with the “Standing to Death in the Name of Life” exposition dedicated to 109 Heroes of the Soviet Union – East Kazakhstani people who fought on the battlefields during the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945.

The second pavilion with expositions covers the themes of Afghan War in 1979–1989 and elimination of Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

The military equipment of the 1938–1970s, installed on the territory of the complex, is provided by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.


Jibek Joly Park

In Jibek Joly Park you and your children will be inspired by architectural and artistic installations like "The Khan's Palace" (Kazakhstan), "Caravanserai" (Kazakhstan), "The Rajah's Palace" (India), "The Emir's Palace" (Central Asia), "The Emperor's Palace” (China), “Caravella” exhibition center, a Labyrinth, Cascade of Waterfalls. Various exhibitions are held regularly there. So, for example, a new hall was opened in the Palace of the Chinese Emperor followed by "Modern Culture of China" photo exhibition. The Reserve Museum continues to acquaint its visitors with culture and traditions of the Great Silk Road countries. Indeed, you will spend an eventful weekend with your children in the left bank complex of the Museum-Reserve. The park has several cafes and you may travel by train throughout the territory. In summer months at the weekends you can become a member of master classes in various types of crafts in the “City of Masters”.

Active Leisure

There are several outdoor playgrounds in Ust-Kamenogorsk. There are children's cafes, entertainment facilities and game halls with various slides and attractions. You can easily find all addresses and contacts on the Internet.

Moreover, you can choose a more intense form of recreation! For instance, go with children to a swimming pool (there are several pools in the city) or enjoy ice skating at the Palace of Sports named after B. Alexandrov.
